My little sister asked

H: Who is in control?

M: They tell us ‘it’s the people,’

But surely it cannot be?
For the people fight for change,
But they cast us out for being ‘crazy.’

That we’re ‘human animals’
They tell us half the tale,
And sing us half the song.
They say ‘democracy for all,’
leaving out ‘but its dependent.’

H: Dependent on what?

M: Dependent on whether they agree with it, after all.
Listen to their list of rules, dear:
‘Genocide is bad, but only if they’re white,
Like if they’re Palestinians, the weight of death is light.’

H: Has it always been like this?

M: History repeats itself, again and again,
Almost as though the earth is begging for the world to learn,
But it never does.
From South Africa, to Palestine, to Native America to Congo.
If they paint you a villain, you cannot change their brush.
Because they will draw the same thing,
Again and again.
And do you know why?

H: Because they control the narrative?

M: No, because they OWN the narrative
